Satemwa Tea Estates, together with Robin Boels from The Flemish Tea Academy (www.theflemishteaacademy.be ), and the non-profit organization Sommelier T (www.sommelier-t.be ) will be organizing a Tea Master Class with Alexander Kay in Antwerp on Sunday 8th of March from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Satemwa Tea Estates, located in the Shire Highlands in Malawi, originated in 1923 and it is currently grandson Alexander Kay (45) who manages the company. Alexander will be in Europe for a week and would like to share his experiences and knowledge with tea lovers in Belgium.
Alexander will talk in a 3-hour Master Class about the history of tea in Malawi and the history of Satemwa. Furthermore, he elaborates on some trends in the global bulk black and green CTC market and gives an outline of the current business climate in Malawi. Alexander elaborates on the concrete effects of climate change for tea farmers and explains more about the opportunities for traditional teas and herbals and the focus on quality, traceability and the social projects behind the tea.
Together with Alexander we will taste various white, green, oolong, black and post-fermented teas. Alexander will explain cultivars, production methods and seasons with every tea.
